Celebrate literacy during Black History Month at the African American Read-In! Drop in between 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM to enjoy a selection of books and participate in activities for children and adults which highlight the achievements of African Americans in the fields of literature, arts and sciences. Special events include a visit with Jerdine Nolen, award-winning author of children's books like Eliza's Freedom Road and Harvey Potter's Balloon Farm, who will read from a selection of her stories at 4:30 PM. Local historian Ruthie Bethea-Sholly will speak about Freedman's Village, an early African American community located in the area of Arlington National Cemetery and an important stop on the journey of African Americans from slavery to freedom at 6:30 PM.
