Baltimore County Public Library kicks off this year's Summer @ Your Library with a fun, free and family-oriented festival on Saturday, June 10 at the Owings Mills Branch Library. The kickoff runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features music, entertainment and books courtesy of the Baltimore Ravens Bookmobile. The kickoff is held both inside and outside of BCPL's Owings Mills Branch, which is located at 10302 Grand Central Avenue in Metro Centre Owings Mills. The Milkshake Duo, featuring Lisa Mathews and Mikel Gehl, performs on the outdoor stage along with Baby Beats with Max & Root. Also featured, balloon art, face painting and hula hooping/juggling with Baltimore Hoop Love. The Baltimore Ravens Bookmobile, operated by the Maryland Book Bank, is onsite with Poe and each Bookmobile visitor leaves with a free book. In addition to the entertainment, attendees can sign up for BCPL's summer reading challenge and see firsthand the variety of programs and resources the library offers. Summer @ Your Library (formerly Summer Reading Club) is a free program that encourages children and teens to read over their school break in order to prevent the "summer slide." The program focuses on keeping students' minds active and engaged during their summer break, with incentives for reading and a wide array of programs focusing on science, technology, arts and math (STEAM), making and more. This year's Summer @ Your Library kickoff sponsors include Rosedale Federal Savings & Loan Association, Maryland 529, Baltimore Ravens, Maryland Book Bank, Metro Centre at Owings Mills, WBAL-TV and Baltimore's Child magazine.
