In this four-class workshop, artist Mike Bare looks at the art of Richard Diebenkorn and Euan Uglow to study the way that shape, value and color can create the illusion of form and space on a flat surface. The goal of these classes is to learn how the work of Diebenkorn and Uglow can inform your own work. A trip to the Baltimore Museum of Art to see the Matisse/Diebenkorn exhibit will be scheduled. January 26 and February 2: We look at how Diebenkorn abstracts still life by simplifying complex information into flat shapes. February 9 and February 16: We look at the paintings of Euan Uglow for their ability to describe form and volume through color/value shapes as opposed to chiaroscuro. Requirements: An understanding of how to paint and some painting experience is necessary. You will need to bring oil or acrylic painting supplies, including paints, brushes and drawing materials. Registration required and begins on January 19. Register once for all four sessions. Suggested donation: $75 Sponsored by the Northern Baltimore County Art Foundation.
